Equipilates™

What is Equipilates™?

I frequently get asked “What is Equipilates™?” Many often thinking it’s Pilates for horses. Equipilates™ focuses on increasing a riders flexibility, building strength, control and elegance. Addressing an individuals alignment and imbalances. Equipilates™ uses a range of techniques to build a deeper partnership between rider and horse.

Pilates has grown in popularity over the past decade with many elite athletes and riders incorporating it as part of their training regimes. Benefits ranging from increasing flexibility, strength, control, developing a strong “core” using the abdominal muscles along with spinal and pelvic stabilisers, helping to prevent injury and increasing body awareness to name a few.

Equipilates™ was founded by Lindsay Wilcox-Reid and aims to focus on the riders “form”, looking not just how a rider sits on their horse externally and mechanically but also looking how a rider functions on the inside (intrinsic biomechanics). An intrinsically balanced rider is aware of their own body and postural imbalances and with our help will have the tools and techniques to improve and build on them and in turn developing a better partnership between rider and horse.

The Franklin Method® and the use of Franklin Balls is something we encompass within Equipilates™. Having seen how effective the Method and the balls combined were I have now completed the Franklin Method Equestrian – Franklin Ball Certified Course and am currently the only trainer in Wales with the qualification.

The Franklin Method® uses Dynamic Neuro-cognitive Imagery, anatomical embodiment and educational skills to create lasting positive change in your body and mind.
